USB Type A / B cables, Micro-USB cables, and Mini-USB cables are all asymmetrical, meaning they have a traditional up and down position that have to be plugged in a certain way in order to fit. USB C changes this with a reversible Type C connector that is slightly larger than the Micro-USB B connector, but allows the connector to be plugged in symmetrically on both sides. You can essentially call this the super position in that it allows the connector to fit both ways, regardless if it is up or down.

The USB 3.1 specification that accompanies USB C introduces increased transfer speeds up to 10Gbps. That's twice the speed of USB 3.0. This is perfect for transferring large files and displaying uncompressed video quickly and efficiently. USB 3.1 also features an improved power delivery system for devices requiring higher output, allowing you to power and charge devices with up to 100 watts of power. This is used in laptops such as the MacBook, only using the USB C port for charging, data transfer, and video output. This upgraded power improvement can also be used on smartphones and tablets to charge devices at a higher power output, such as those used on the Nexus 6P and 5X.

well crafted and works

I've tested the adapter with USB 3.1, 3.0, 2.0, and 1.1 devices. There is a 50% chance that you will have to reverse a connection at the adapter for your device to pass data. The product description mentions that devices "can now be plugged in either way" but this is only true at the computer's USB-C female port which has orientation detection, not the adapter's female USB-C ports which have no orientation detection. The adapter does not work with any USB-C alternate modes (Thunderbolt 3, DisplayPort, HDMI). This is as expected since the product description does not make any such claim but it is disappointing. I would greatly appreciate such an adapter to solve a couple problems. First, USB-C display adapters (such as USB-C to VGA) use DisplayPort alternate mode, but cannot be used with a normal DisplayPort output because no one makes a DisplayPort to USB-C female cable. Second, Thunderbolt 3 display adapters (such as Thunderbolt 3 to Dual DisplayPort) cannot be used with Thunderbolt 2 computers (without using an intermediate device with two Thunderbolt 3 connectors) because Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 adapters have a male USB-C connector (I am specifically referring to Apple's adapter since other adapters only work in one direction).

It depends. It will work, however since the adapter is passive, keep in mind that if the length is too long, there is the possibility that it may not function.
