Multi-source agreement (MSA) standards are agreements to make products that are compatible between different manufacturers. The MSA defines standards such as physical characteristics (e.g. form factor) and operating characteristics (electrical values, etc.). Products include SFP / QSFP transceivers, DAC cables, and other network based products. This allows users a wider selection of vendors to choose from, while maintaining standards.
