> Setting up the Network feature on your DVR unit (DVR-CR04C-406 & DVR-CR16C)
Step 1:

To successfully connect to a network, you DVR must have a hard drive already installed. This DVR does not ship with a hard drive, so make sure you install one before attempting network setup. Hard drive installation is simple and should only take a few minutes

First connect your cameras and monitor to the DVR. Next, you may then connect your RJ-45 cable to your DVR. Connect the other end of the network cable to a networked router or hub. Once your DVR has been connected to all its peripherals, you may connect the power adapter and power on your unit. 

Step2:

When your unit powers up it will go through the boot process. Your DVR will check for connected hard drives. Make sure your the hard drive(s) you connected is shown in the startup display. If no hard drive is displayed, you must power down and check to see if your hard drive(s) are properly connected. When your DVR detects a hard drive for the first time it will format it to the units specifications. 

Step: 3

Once the boot process has successfully completed your unit must be configured to allow for network connectivity. Press the menu button (show below) until the "Main Menu" screen is displayed. Assure that the "Camera Select" section displays the correct camera channels you are using (refer to the supplied manual for details). Press the down arrow until "Network Setup" is selected, then press the DVR's enter button.

 
Step 4:

Your unit should now be displaying the "Network Menu," window. From this window make sure "Accept Client" is marked "YES." If yes is not selected, you may select "Accept Client" with the up/down arrows then press enter when "YES" is displayed. Take note of the units IP address and subnet Mask.

 

Step 5:

The next step is to check your PC's subnet mask and IP address. 

From the desktop of your PC, right click the "My Network Places" icon and then left click "properties" to get to the network connections window displayed below. You may also get to this window by going to the control panel and double click "Network Connections." 

Left click the network adapter that is currently connected and then select "properties."

From the "General" tab select and highlight "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" and then click properties. 

Step 6:

A window like the one below should now be displayed. 

Select "Use the following IP address." 

Take note of your PC's subnet mask and IP address. Enter a subnet mask to match that of the DVR. Also, change the IP address so that it is the same as the DVR, which the exception of the last number. In this example our DVR has the IP address 192.168.1.15, and our PC's IP address is 192.168.1.9. Note that only the last number (15 and 9) are the only numbers that differ.

If you do not want to change your PC's subnet mask and IP address, you may change the DVR's instead. Refer to Step 6.5 for information on how to configure your DVR.

Step: 6.5

*This step should only be taken if you decided to change your subnet mask and IP address of your DVR instead of your PC.

To change your DVR's IP address and subnet mask you must display the "Network Menu" from your unit. 

Use the up/down arrows to select "IP Address." Once "IP Address" is selected push the enter button. A curser will be displayed above the first digit of the IP address. To change a digit press enter until the desired digit is displayed. Press the up/down buttons to select another digit. Change the IP address so that it is the same as the PC, which the exception of the last number. In this example our DVR has the IP address 192.168.1.15, and our PC's IP address is 192.168.1.9. Note that only the last number (15 and 9) are the only numbers that differ. Once the IP address has been changed press the menu button. 

Now use the same process to change the subnet mask to match that of the PC. 

Step: 7

You must now install the included DVR software on your PC. Insert the software CD into your PC's CD drive and select the folder with either the NTSC or PAL version.  Double click the Setup.EXE file and follow the install process. 

Step: 8

You may now launch the DVR software on your PC. 

A window should be displayed, like the one shown below. Click the "Connect" button in the upper right corner to connect to your DVR.

Step: 9

After clicking "Connect" the window below should be displayed. Enter the IP address of your DVR unit. You must also enter the DVR's password. The default password is "111111" and can be changed at another time. Click "OK."

Your Done!

You can now view, record, and play from your networked PC.
