ATSC HDTV FAQ

ATSC

"ATSC" is the standard for over-the-air broadcasts of digital TV stations. You can buy ATSC antennas and ATSC tuners that will enable you to receive digital stations over the air. You can use HDTV's to display digital stations, or buy an ATSC converter box to use an older television.

How to check what type of antenna you need

Check out NAB Station List to find what RF channels are used by the tv stations in your area. If the "RF channel" is 2 thru 13, then you need a VHF antenna for that channel. If the "RF channel" is 14 and above, you need a UHF antenna.

We carry ATSC antennas that cover both UHF and VHF. We also carry VHF-only antennas.

Signal Distribution

UHF and VHF occupy the following frequencies:

VHF: 55-212MHz  (Channels 2 to 13)
UHF: 471-802Mhz (Channels 14 to 69)

You can by an ATSC splitter to get multiple outputs from one high-definition antenna.
