Tutorial for DVR-H04-LHD and DVR-H08-LHD
Connect the BNC out connector to the montior.

Connect the camera BNC cables to the DVR. You may connect the power to the DVR.
Power on the DVR.

Press the "play" button to change configuration and to format.
The main window will appear. You may use the front buttons to change views.
You should set the time first before recording (go into the System menu). Changing the time after recording will make it hard to find previous video.

To schedule recordings, press menu, select "record", and select "record schedule".
This screen displays 24 hours in military time. The leftmost is midnight, and on the right is 11pm. Scheduling is done by hour.

Use the left and right keys to move left and right, and the enter key to toggle the recording type for each hour of the day. Here we have selected 11am to 1pm timed recording, and 2pm motion detection/sensor recording. Any motion or sensor event will start recording for 2pm. 11am to 1pm is recorded for the entire period.
Press the menu button a couple of times to exit, then select "Exit & Save Changes"

To disable unused channels from being recorded, go to Menu->"Camera"->"Display"
Now we will set up network access to the DVR, allowing web access to DVR video.

On the computer, go to Start->Run and type in "cmd" and press enter.
Type in "ipconfig" and presss enter.
Write down the IP address and the default gateway numbers.
On the DVR, go to Menu->System->Network

Set "Enable" to "Yes"
Set the port number to "8841".

Select "Local IP"
Select IP Type "Static"

Set the IP address to the same as the PC except the last 3 digits. Here, we have selected "118" for the last three digits.

Set the Gateway number to the same as the PC's gateway number.
Set the name server settings in Network. Set "Enable", enter your network's IP address (check on http://ip-lookup.net to find your WAN address, using a computer on the same network as the DVR), and select port 80.
Exit and save settings. Cycle the power on the DVR.
Then, set port forwarding on your router. In this case, we are using a Linksys router. Please check your router manual for port forwarding instructions.

In this particular router, we go to Applications->Port Forwarding Range.
Using your router, enable port forwarding for the port number and IP address of the DVR. Enable ports 80 and 8841. (You can use 8842 or 8843 instead of 8841, if you previously changed the DVR settings to these ports.) Make sure the correct checkboxes are enabled. Select "save settings".

If port forwarding does not work, you may need to set the router for DMZ on the DVR's local IP address (the one used for accessing the DVR on the local network). Make sure your DVR's IP address is unique on your local network.
Type in the IP address of your network in Internet Explorer. Note that this IP address is different than the local ip address.

If you do not get this screen, check the network lights on both ends to see if the network cable is connected correctly. Test with another network cable.

Enter the IP address (same numbers as the address bar), port number (8841), and password. The default password is "111111"

Click "Connect"

Video should begin to display. You may use the buttons along the bottom to control the DVR.

If video does not begin to display, download and run the setup file. To do this, type in the IP address followed by "/xl_Setup.exe". For example, "65.203.129.74/xl_setup.exe" is entered in the browser address bar, to download from our particular network. After downloading, run xl_setup. Once the install is complete, restart Internet Explorer, and type in the network address again. If you get an ActiveX warning in the upper part of the IE window, click to allow ActiveX to run. Log in as in the previous step. You can also load xl_setup directly from cd.

Recording to local computer
After installing XL_setup (see previous step), you can record video to the local computer.

Launch NetviewerL as shown above.
Click on "Viewer"
Right click and select "Connect"
Enter the IP address of the DVR, port number (8841), and password. The default password is "111111"

Click "Login"

Video will display.

Right click and select "Options"
Select a folder to record to. Click "OK"
Right click, select "Local Recording"->"Start Local Recording"
Right click, select "Local Recording"->"Stop Local Recording"
You can play the video file by double clicking on it.

USB Backup
To backup to USB, connect a usb flash drive or USB hard drive to the USB port. Press "play"

"Time Search" will show you the begin and end dates of all recordings.
You may select a date and time of where playback should begin. You can use the left right, up, down, enter, and menu buttons to navigate.
Highlight "Search" and press "Enter"
Playback will begin. To backup from your previously selected date, press "Enter"
Press the "up" key to move up the start time of the usb backup, and the "down" key to move up the end time of the usb backup.

Press "Enter" when finished.
Press "Enter" again to begin backup. The DVR will copy the video to the USB disk.
After the copy is finished, it will say "completed". You can then connect the USB drive to a computer.
Double click on the video file.
It will begin to play in Netviewerl
Motion Detection
You can set motion detection for each camera. In the main menu, select "Motion detection"

Select a camera channel. Set sensitivity. You can set the motion area to be a subset of the whole picture.

To draw a box where you want motion detection to be active, use the arrow keys to place the cursor at the upper left corner.
Press enter
Move the cursor down.
Move the cursor right.
Press enter
Press the menu key.

What if I can't access the DVR in Internet Explorer?
Here are some things to check:
Set DVR network settings to use port 8841 (and port 80 for the name server). Make sure you assign an IP address for the DVR that is unique on your network.
Double check your router settings for port forwarding. Both ports 80 and 8841 should be enabled.
DVR settings should be saved using the "Exit and save changes" option, and DVR power should be cycled off and on.
Compare the port and IP addresses settings on the DVR and on the router. Make sure you log in with the correct IP address (both in address bar and inside the main window), port number, and password.
In Internet Explorer, download xl_setup.exe using the previous instructions. When running Internet Explorer, you may need to click to allow the DVR activeX control to run.
Make sure only one computer is accessing the DVR at a time.
Try restarting the browser.
Check the network lights on the router. Test with different cables. If port 80 is being used by another service, you will need to run the NetViewerL application to see the DVR.
Run NetViewerL, click on "viewer", right click and select "connect". Log in.

How do I set up dynamic DNS?
You can use a free service such as
https://www.dyndns.com to obtain a fixed name for the DVR's IP address.
