Magnetic Lock System
A magnetic lock or electromagnetic lock is designed to hold a door shut using magnetic energy. By fixing the electromagnet to a door frame and an armature plate to a door, electricity is passed through it which holds the door securely. Magnetic locks are more secure than traditional door locks because there are no holes to pick, making them a viable option to use for home or business installations. Typically, the magnetic lock is powered either using a buildings existing electrical system or powered by a battery pack. PI Manufacturings magnet locks are fail-safe, meaning if the power goes out, the magnetic lock will be unlocked. This is to allow people to exit a door if there is a power outage or any other incident.
A magnetic lock system is usually paired with an access control system that releases the lock, since no keys are used. Typically, this can be in the form of a keypad where numbers are entered to release the magnetic lock or a proximity card reader where a card is swiped to release the lock. Other systems include exit switches where personnel inside a building can hit a button to release the magnetic lock to even more secure systems such as retina, fingerprint, or facial scanners.
