HDMI Extenders and Repeaters
The distance of a HDMI cable is limited to 100 feet. What if you needed to extend the distance even further than 100 feet? The answer to that is the use of cutting edge technology with HDMI extenders. HDMI extenders utilize Cat5 or Cat6 Ethernet network cable to extend the length of a HDMI cable beyond the 100 feet limit while preserving 1080p quality. In terms of length, using a HDMI extender can extend distances up to 150 feet at 1080p and downgrade to 1080i and below as length increases. Also, the use of Cat6 network cables are recommended as they tend to maximize the distance of the HDMI cable due to its higher bandwidth capability. A HDMI extender will either come in passive or active power, meaning it can function without a power adapter or with a power adapter. Also, the HDMI extender can either accept 2 Cat5 or Cat6 network cables to function or only 1 Cat5 or Cat6 network cable. If you require a wall plate type HDMI extender to install in-wall, the use of a HDMI extender wall plate kit is a standard passive solution to increase the distance of a HDMI cable.
